What to Look for When Buying A Percussion Instrument

Posted by Sean Lemons on Apr 26th 2019

Percussion instruments are considered by many people to be easier to learn than other instruments and they can be also considered to be great tools for physical exercise, so a good drum set fulfills multiple roles. However, your playing on your set of percussion instruments will feel great and sound great only if you choose your instruments right – here are some tips how:

  • -The drums in a percussion set – the bass drum, the snare, the hi-hat and the tom drums (a small tom, a mid tom and the floor tom) are the most important components in any drum set configuration. When you choose them, make sure you choose heads of the right size and pay attention to the size of the stands as well;
  • -The cymbals – no drum set can be complete without cymbals. You will need a crash cymbal and a ride cymbal and suitably sized stands to support them;
  • -The throne – a comfortable chair to sit on while you are playing is also essential for the success of the learning process as well as of your performances. Conventional chairs or stools are too high for drum sets, so make sure you get a chair designed especially for playing the drums.
