What Drums are in a Drum Kit?

Bass drum
is a large drum set on the floor and played with a foot pedal. As the name
suggests, this drum has the lowest sound in the entire set.
Snare
drums provide the basic rhythm. Together with the bass drum, they are the
most important components of the drum set. Snare drums are usually positioned
in front of the drummer's legs.
Tom toms
are positioned above the bass drum. They are often used in pairs. Variations
include Single headed tom-toms, or concert toms, Rototoms, Gong bass drum and
floor tom, the latter being also very popular. Floor tom is used for pausing
songs. As its name states, it is placed on the floor and usually on the right
side of the drummer.
Cymbals are also an essential part of the drum set. There are many types of cymbals. The basic set consists of the following: Hi-hat, Ride and Crash. This set can always be supplemented with one of the electronic cymbals (e.g., China and Splash).
All the drums mentioned above exist in different sizes and are made of different materials. There is no ideal number of drums and cymbals in a set; each drummer makes their own drum set configuration.
